This Himalayan journey is all about experiencing the beauty of two stunning grasslands - Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal. These vast meadows, surrounded by towering mountains like Mount Trishul and Nanda Ghunti, offer breathtaking views. You'll trek through lush forests filled with oak, rhododendron, walnut, pear, and Himalayan roses, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the wind and mountain birds. As you hike, you'll be amazed by the sudden transition from dense trees to open greenery.
The trek also allows you to visit the villages of Didna and Wan, where you can learn about local customs and lifestyles. You'll encounter sacred sites like the temples of Nanda Devi and Latu Devta, as well as Bedni Kund at the top of Bedni Bugyal. While the famous Roopkund trek used to include these meadows, it's currently banned by the Uttarakhand High Court, making the Ali Bedni trek quieter and more serene.
Lohajung is the base camp for the Ali Bedni Bugyal trek. The best way to reach here is from Rishikesh. The route, once you cross Rishikesh, is beautiful. Trees overhang the river and the water trips and falls over boulders in the shade. The water is cool and refreshing. From the river it is a short half-hour climb to the ridge above Wan village.
The Lohajung valley. There are many routes to the bottom of the Wan village, and all roads eventually lead down to the road junction (Kasar Bagad) near the hydel project.
